Operation and marketing of sports betting offerings (B2C)

The Gauselmann Group has been active in the sports betting business since 2005 as a provider and broker of sports betting, both in Germany and internationally. The sports betting segment comprises the ‘product house’, including betting agent Cashpoint Solutions in Vienna and the sales organisations in the core markets Germany (under the XTiP brand), Austria and Denmark (Cashpoint), Belgium (Betcenter) and Poland (Totolotek). Furthermore, the sports betting division is responsible for the provision of virtual slot machine games under the brand MERKUR SPIEL. While the MERKUR business segment is responsible for the technical development of the offerings, the Gaming operations business segment is in charge of the operation and marketing of sports betting products.

Our offer

The sports betting brands XTiP, Cashpoint and Betcenter offer land-based and online sports betting activities. Totolotek offers online sports betting. The land-based business comprises company-owned betting agencies, as well as a franchise system for betting shops, points of sale and shop-in-shop systems. Online betting offerings can also be accessed via the desktop or via an app on a mobile device. A personalised customer card that can be used on all platforms allows customers to access all sports betting content and services uniformly and conveniently. All product solutions can at all times be reliably adapted to the country-specific laws and regulations of the target markets and meet the highest quality and security standards thanks to certification in accordance with DIN ISO 27001.

Consumer protection

In Germany, a legal basis entered into force on 1 January 2020, according to which all private betting providers must fulfil clearly defined requirements to obtain a nationwide sports betting licence. These include youth and player protection measures, fair odds and secure encryption systems. This put an end to many years of legal uncertainty, as a consequence of which sports betting providers without a licence were tolerated in Germany. The Gauselmann Group applied for a licence to organise sports betting for the land-based and online market and was the first company to receive such a licence on 9 October 2020. As a holder of this licence, the Gauselmann Group can operate as a betting provider under the State Treaty on the New Regulation of Gambling (Glücksspielneuregulierungsstaatsvertrag (GlüStV 2021)) that will come into force from 1 July 2021.

Employees

Over 1,000 employees currently work in the sports betting business segment at the headquarters in Espelkamp, the ‘product house’ in Vienna, the betting provider in Malta, the national sales offices in Vienna, Copenhagen, Hasselt (Belgium) and Warsaw, as well as in the company-operated branches.
