MERKUR Casino-Black Jack

The Gauselmann Group has been active in the casino sector since 2013. In that year, MERKUR Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture with Stadtcasino Baden AG, won a European call for tenders for a licence to operate public casinos in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. The company was granted the licence to operate public casinos in Saxony-Anhalt in 2014. This covers the operation of up to six casinos for a term of 15 years.

Most modern casinos

The first MERKUR casino in Leuna-Günthersdorf, which opened at the end of 2014, was followed by a second in Magdeburg in April 2016. The games offered in the casinos include slot machine games as well as various “classics” such as roulette, blackjack and poker. A third venue was opened at the beginning of 2019 in Halle (Saale) solely for slot machine gaming. The guests are thrilled with the unique and guest-oriented service concept, a trendy bar area with a wide selection of food and beverages, as well as exciting events and campaigns. The MERKUR casinos, as the most modern casinos in Germany, have set new standards within the casino sector.

MERKUR Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH was the first casino organisation in Europe to undergo accreditation of its responsible gaming measures by the internationally renowned Global Gambling Guidance Group (G4). All three Merkur Spielbanken are certified to G4.

The Gauselmann Group has been continually expanding its presence in the casino market since 2013. In 2016, it acquired a stake in Spielbank Berlin GmbH & Co. KG, the operating company of Spielbank Berlin, with four casinos in the capital. This was followed in 2019 by shares in Spielbank Mainz GmbH & Co. KG and its general partner, Spielbank Mainz Beteiligungs GmbH, the operating company of Spielbanken Bad Ems, Mainz and Trier. In 2021, the Gauselmann Group was awarded the contract in the tender procedure for the North Rhine-Westphalian casinos of the WestSpiel Group. The company was thus able to expand its casino repertoire to include the locations of Aachen, Bad Oeynhausen, Dortmund-Hohensyburg, Duisburg and, in future, Monheim am Rhein. Thus giving the Gauselmann Group a stake in a total of 14 casino venues in Germany.
