Quality is a top priority at CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK. This is illustrated not only by the best selection of games, but also the certification of the CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK headquarters and all entertainment centres in accordance with international quality management standard DIN EN ISO 9001:2008.

Furthermore, in 2015/2016 the CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK headquarters and numerous entertainment centres were accredited by the two independent organisations TÜV Intercert Saar and TÜV Rheinland within the scope of industry-specific certifications. TÜV Intercert Saar certifies in accordance with the “TÜV-GJSTIC:114 – player and youth protection” standard and TÜV Rheinland in accordance with the “Regularly inspected gaming arcades” standard.

In 2017, CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK was for the second time running again voted “most popular gaming arcade” in a nationwide survey on gaming arcades conducted by the German news magazine Focus. Three times in a row – 2015, 2016 and 2017 – CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK also received Focus magazine’s “Top National Employer” award, making it one of the most recognised companies in Germany with very high staff satisfaction. The company also successfully participated in the “TOP SERVICE Germany 2016” competition, which was organised by Service-Rating GmbH in collaboration with the Handelsblatt newspaper as media partner and the University of Mannheim. Here, CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK belongs to the excellence group. In 2013, the Gauselmann subsidiary also held its own in Germany’s biggest service ranking by the daily newspaper “DIE WELT” and was the only company in the gaming machine industry to be awarded the “Service Champion Bronze” seal.

In the international arcade segment, the Gauselmann Group operates under the CASINO MERKUR International brand. Since 1986, it has steadily extended its international business activities. Also beyond Germany’s borders, the Gauselmann Group relies on its four success factors in order to offer its international guests state-of-the-art entertainment customised specifically to the needs of the individual markets.

CASINO MERKUR International is currently active in Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Serbia, the UK, the Netherlands and Slovakia, and operates well in excess of 300 modern entertainment centres under the laughing Merkur sun.

The Gauselmann Group has been active in the casino sector since 2013. In the same year, Merkur Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH & Co. KG won the tender for the licence to operate public casinos in the state of Saxony-Anhalt and thus prevailed in the context of a Europe-wide bid for tenders. In Saxony-Anhalt it is permitted to open a total of two casinos and four coin-op machine arcades. The company’s partner is Swiss Stadtcasino Baden AG. Also in 2013, Merkur Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt received the licensing assurance and, in 2014, the licence to operate public casinos in Saxony-Anhalt was granted.

In December 2014, the Merkur Spielbank in Leuna-Günthersdorf opened its doors. It is Germany’s most modern casino, with a unique concept combining classic games such as blackjack, poker and roulette with slot machine games. There is also a stage for events and a lounge and bar area where food is served. A second Merkur Spielbank was opened in Magdeburg in April 2016.

The Merkur Spielbank in Leuna-Günthersdorf is also the first casino in Europe to undergo accreditation by the internationally renowned Global Gambling Guidance Group (G4), thus breaking new ground with respect to the issue of responsible gaming.

Since acquiring a 40 per cent equity stake in Germany’s largest casino in Berlin, operated by Spielbank Berlin, the Gauselmann Group has played an active role since the beginning of 2016 as shareholder in the development of the licensed Spielbank locations in the German capital.

The company also provides entertainment on the high seas: at the end of 2016, the Gauselmann Group was granted operating licences to run casinos aboard cruise ships. Under the brand name CASINO MERKUR MARE (CMM), the first four casinos are being operated on four cruise ships of the “Pullmantur Cruceros” cruise line.
